Everey year, the Sziget festival is organised in Budapest in the surroundings on the first week of august. Many teenagers, youngsters and adults are coming to this event to feel the sunshine of Budapest. The week-long festival has grown from a relatively low-profile student event in 1993 to become one of the prominent European rock festivals.
By 1997 total attendance surpassed the 250,000 mark, reaching an all-time peak in 2016 with 496,000 visitors from 95 countries.
The festival is popular with west Europeans. About 50% of visitors come from out of Hungary, with the largest group coming from the Netherlands. Many also come from the UK, Germany, Italy, France and Ireland.
This festival has a slogan, „the island of freedom”. People who have visited this event, think it’s firmly true. You can do everything you have ever wanted to during Sziget. Besides concerts, there are so many fast food restaurants to eat, but you can try how to bungee-jump, too.
Being located on an island, some festival goers have tried to enter by swimming across the Danube or by paddling across in inflatable rafts. The organizers very much discourage these attempts as it is dangerous due to the tricky nature of the fast-flowing Danube river.

In case you like culture not just festivals, but also theater and museums, there are so many places for you to catch a glimpse at them in the city center. It very easy to approach the National Museum and the Museum of Arts by public transport. There are some periodic exhibitions for a low price.
The theaters there are so many plays and musicals to watch such as Romeo and Juliet or the Adventures of Mary Poppins. However, it’s important to book your tickets in advance.
